A Fresh Voice in Education

In addition to her work with students across various ages and academic levels, Dr. GwenJ has homeschooled her own three children throughout their entire school years. This experience gives her a unique understanding of individualized learning, curriculum adaptation, self-paced instruction, and the importance of developing a love for learning — skills that greatly form her speaking, teaching, and tutoring approach.

As a speaker, Dr. GwenJ brings a fresh and engaging perspective to education. Drawing from her background in engineering and design, she demonstrates how math and STEM concepts connect to everyday life, creativity, and self-expression. Her approach captivates students who may struggle with traditional learning models and inspires those who are already excelling to explore further.

Educational Background

Dr. GwenJ holds a Ph.D. in Theology from Touch of Love Theological Institute, an M.A.T. in Teacher Leadership from Grand Canyon University, and a B.S. in Electrical & Computer Engineering (Power Systems) from Cleveland State University. She also completed doctoral coursework in General Psychology at Grand Canyon University with an emphasis in Cognition & Instruction, where her dissertation research, First-Year Students' Motivation to Attend Tutoring at an Ohio Community College, explored student motivation, academic support, and persistence.

She is certified by the State of Ohio Department of Education as a Long-Term Substitute Teacher for Adolescents to Young Adults (Grades 7–12) and has completed leadership and continuing education programs through Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management and Payne Theological Seminary.

Academic & Youth Programs Experience

Dr. GwenJ has taught and facilitated learning across multiple academic and youth-centered programs. She currently teaches a First Year Experience course at Cuyahoga Community College, where she also serves as the Administrative Coordinator for Academic Success at the Tri-C Eastern Campus.

She has taught math enrichment within the Brooklyn Middle School After-School Program in Ohio and supported college-bound students through the Baldwin Wallace Upward Bound Program. She also taught at a summer camp hosted by New Dimension Church, where she demonstrated how math shows up in everyday life and made learning fun and engaging for children.

Upward Bound & STEM Initiatives

Dr. GwenJ served as a math instructor and tutor with the Case Western Reserve Upward Bound Program, where she conducted the Ohio Graduation Test math review sessions for 9th–12th graders. Her instruction led to a high percentage of students achieving proficiency and maintaining strong performance in mathematics throughout the summer residential program.

She also taught in the NASA SEMAA summer program and served as the Director of the Rising Stars Readiness Academy, where she created and taught an inclusive math and personal skills development curriculum for rising 7th–10th grade students. The five-week summer immersion program helped students strengthen academic and life skills, accelerate their learning, and prepare for entry into the Tri-C/Warrensville High School Early College program.

Tutoring & Academic Support

Beyond these roles, she coaches and tutors with Academic Coaching Specialist, USA, and continues to support students preparing for and working to pass ALEKS math placement courses, which are required by colleges for academic progression.

Empowering Students, Parents & Educators

Dr. GwenJ is passionate about bringing her educational experience into schools, programs, and community spaces as a speaker. Her approach blends her background in engineering, homeschooling, tutoring, and youth development to address real-world challenges in learning, teaching, and STEM engagement.
